70th Floor US Bank Tower Los Angeles

I am currently in my third day of working with the Community Development Commission CDC for the Los Angeles County and got a chance to work with several people such as William Huang, Larry, John, Blair, and many others within this organization.

Today's trip was a particular interest to me because of the opportunity to visit many places such as the county building where all the supervisors were debating the issues on their agenda including my professor in my PPD 225 who was a deputy for Supervisor Antonovich. After an interesting meeting with Carlos Jackson in the "back room" where all the deals are discussed and many questions are answered informally.

We had a chance to visit skid row in Los Angeles and saw two public work projects called the George Hotel & Rainbow Apartments. Rainbow apartments received enormous attention for not their homeless program but its architecture. These buildings offer services such as rehabilitation, drug counseling, and many other programs to help low income individuals make a positive step towards improvement. Many of the apartments are subsidized and often paid for by the CDC and non profit organizations. After visiting one of the poorest region in the city, we were then sent up for a meeting between the director and a group of lawyers who specialize in the emerging New Market Tax Credit program. The location was at the US Bank Tower in downtown and the picture above was the view I had before entering the building.

Overall, I had a great experience and I highly recommend this externship to anybody who wishes to experience a government job in any agency. I am going to participate in it next year so contact me if you need more info. I have 3 more days left!
